Good coffee in a holiday rental is a matter of luck. After too many bitter mornings, we started traveling with our own small kit. It fits in a shoebox and has saved many days.

- **A ceramic dripper** and paper filters: light, unbreakable if wrapped in a sock.
- **A hand grinder**: the children fight over who gets to turn it.
- **A thermos**: so the second cup is still warm on the road.
